Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine, a Philadelphia native, was born and raised in the city. Her mother Pam was a backing singer at Philadelphia International Records. Her father offered her a job as the curator of the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She and her family later moved into the historic mansion. In 2005, a Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts student and a top student in vocal music. Sullivan began singing as a contralto with the children's choirand a few years later in the adult group. Sullivan was not exposed to secular music. The singer recalls she was eleven when someone was requesting her to sing for solos at church. The singer wasn't yet ready for. "Then McDonald's offered a competition to children from major cities. This competition provided me with the opportunity to perform Accept the Grace of God on Showtime Apollo. My fans were very supportive." Stevie Wonder sang her part when he turned 13. Sullivan aged 15 at the time, signed her first contract with Jive Records. Sullivan was initially signed by Jive Records at the age 15. The singer-songwriter produced an entire album. However, this album was never released. Sullivan was then removed out of the company. Her work had been in good relations with Missy Elliott. Elliott produced many of her tracks, including "Backstabbers", which was produced by Timbaland.
